Most people tend to freeze up when a claim happens.


It’s human nature: accident, storm, damage — and suddenly you’re standing there like a deer in headlights. But in those moments, reaction beats hesitation.

Here’s what to remember in a claim situation:

  • Shut off the water. Take photos. Call a contractor.

  • Don’t wait for “permission” from your insurance company to act. This is your property.

Understand Your Deductible & Maintenance Role

 

  • Insurance isn’t a maintenance plan.

  • Your deductible is part of your risk — not a suggestion. And routine wear & tear? That’s not what policies cover.

  • Have an emergency fund or savings buffer in place.

Call Your Agent, Not Just the 800 Number

 

  • Having an independent agent in your corner makes a difference.
